Life's For Sharing!
If this T-Mobile ad doesn't put a smile on your face, nothing will. The strategy, "Life's For sharing", and the execution of it is nothing short of brilliant. Shot LIVE on 1/15/09 with ten hidden cameras in London's Liverpool Street Train Station using 400 hired dancers and a real crowd of commuters, it was then edited in one day and ran in a full commercial break on the UK's Channel 4 episode of Big Brother.
I love the juxtaposition of musical styles and age groups. It reaffirms my belief that as humans we are still not that far away from the tribal drum beat and a spontaneous village celebration. What is so fascinating to me is our strong desire to immediately share these types of moments that lift us up. Now doesn't that in and of itself tell us something?
Maybe this will spawn a whole new wave of public boogying! Sure hope so. If nothing else, it introduced me to a 1964 cover by Lulu of the classic Isley Brothers song "Shout".
The ad was created by Saatchi & Saatchi London and the eight music tracks used in the spot were Shout (Lulu, 1964), The Only Way is Up (Yazz, 1988), Dontcha (Pussycat Dolls, 2007), Blue Danube Waltz (Johann Strauss, 1867), Get Down on It (Kool & The Gang, 1981), Since Youve Been Gone (Rainbow, 1979), My Boy Lollipop (Millie Small, 1964), and Do You Love Me? (Contours, 1962).
