Walking On A Dream

Empire of The Sun is spreading across the globe at warp speed. The debut album and single from Aussies Luke Steele of The Sleepy Jackson and Nick Littlemore of Pnau has already set Australia and New Zealand on fire, surprised the heck out of the UK, and is creeping it's way onto U.S. shores. (The album was released on 10/04/08 in AU and NZ and is scheduled for release 2/23/09 in the UK. No U.S. release date has been announced).

Though not yet confirmed for March's SXSW Festival in Austin; my bet is that if they show, it will be THE hot ticket this year.

I have long been a fan of The Sleepy Jackson and still consider Luke's 2003 album Lovers to be one of the best cross genre albums of the last decade...but this new project takes that talent to a whole new level. Empire of the Sun's over the top electro pop sound and visuals are catchy enough to be mainstream and just edgy enough to be "indie". It's an infectious dance-a-licious track that I have had a hard time not playing over and over and over (it's already spawned 6 dance remixes and counting!)

The duo take their name from the 1984 novel and film of the same name. The band even shot the video for the song in Shanghai which has raked in over a million views on You Tube:

Just wait til next Halloween when I predict that this new visual interpretation of "Empire" will be all the costume rage. Can a video game spinoff and action figures be far behind?

I feel like I'm watching an episode of Flight of the Conchords.
