I hate it when venues tag this kind of language onto a triple bill. I have no idea what it means.
The concert is tonight but it's not showing up on Holland's web site or MySpace page so it seems to be a pretty under the radar thing. Is she playing a set or joining the others for a few songs? Is she the main bill or filling time? Is she on at 7:30 or 11:00pm? Could someone at the venue answer the phone?
Whatever it is, it's all happening at the new avant-garde performance space La Poisson Rouge on Bleecker street in The Village. Noodle Shop is playing which is a band nobody's heard of that includes members of Camper Van Beethoven, Ween and Television- which in and of itself is pretty amazing.
Dogbowl is the opening act (no, I am not making up these names) who is a one person avant-garde tour de force himself. He hasn't played in years and it "appears" Jolie may join him?
Who knows. Going into it on a wing and a prayer...if you don't know Jolie Holland she is a an excellent singer songwriter in the Lucinda Williams tradition and her 2008 album The Living and the Dead might be her best yet. Check her out!
