Jai Ho

Jai Ho Leads The Rallying Cry For Slumdog.

Anyone who watched the Golden Globes last night couldn't help but feel a burst of pride  every time Slumdog Millionaire won another award... and this song began playing.

Compared to the mostly mellow, cinematic music that played when other films were announced, Slumdog's music infused the room with an immediate burst of energy and passion as winners snaked their way to the stage and people stood up and cheered- particularly when it won the Globe for "Best Original Score".

I am generally not a big fan of soundtracks but this song has become the rallying cry of support for this little film. A. R. Rahman is widely considered India's finest film composer and has managed to create commercially successful scores that bring a new sense of modern, global music to Bollywood. I can't think of the last time that an original score song was as at home on the big screen as it is on the dance floors of nightclubs all over the globe (and the inclusion of M.I.A. on this soundtrack is nothing short of marketing and musical brilliance).

Bring on the Oscars!

oh, I totally agree.  He's created a new DNA for a western bollywood movie without even realising it!
