Weather With You

Saturday Morning Flashback.1991

"Do I lie like a loungeroom lizard, or do I sing like a bird released"

I can remember singing these words at the top of my lungs on a sailboat in Lake Michigan in the summer of '91. I was living in Chicago at the time and the Woodface album had just come out and I adored this song. Still do. As I sit in NYC waiting for a big fat snow storm, I am reminded that no matter what the weather, you simply cannot listen to this song and be in a bad mood.

Neil Finn has been on my mind all week as I watched videos trickle in to You Tube from the 3 nights of the second 7 Worlds Collide Tour in Auckland, NZ that took place Jan 5-7. The first one was in 2001 when his supergroup musician friends gathered for a live recorded album of Crowded House hits. This time around, participants were invited to show up (families in tow) with ORIGINAL material in various degrees of refinement. They have holed up for 3 weeks in Auckland at Finn's studio to fine tune and record a new 7 Worlds Collide album, due out in 2009. The album will benefit Oxfam International.

The list of participants is mighty impressive:

Neil Finn of Crowded House and son Liam Finn ( a great young singer/songwriter in his own right)
Jeff Tweedy, Glenn Kotche, and Pat Sansone of Wilco
Phil Selway and Ed O'Brien of Radiohead
Johnny Marr, of The Smiths and Modest Mouse
Sebastian Steinberg of Soul Coughing
Lisa Germano
K T Tunstall

Here's a sneak peak into what's been going on in that studio. This has to be a new Tweedy penned song!
