Can "Wicked Good Slippers" And A Catchy Tune Save Christmas?
Fountains Of Wayne is a band that always gets a bad rap. Their one breakout hit "Stacy's Mom" made soccer moms giggle and indie hipsters cringe but when you scrape away the nine layers of icing, the band has some incredible power pop gems. (Just look up Hackensack for bullet proof evidence)
Another one is "Valley Winter Song", a song that would have fit snugly into the Garden State soundtrack and even now, 5 years later, finds itself as the perfect backdrop to LL Bean's new Christmas ad campaign.
It's a song that is instantly nostalgic and makes me long for a snowy day in New York so badly that I can almost taste it....
"Remember New York
Staring outside
As reckless winter made its way
From Staten Island
To the upper west side
Whiting out our streets along the way"
The LL Bean ad (below) reminded me it's time to start thinking about the spirit of Christmas. Maybe I'll even go online and buy a pair of those "wicked good slipper" moccasins for mom and pretend that the economy isn't collapsing around us. Hey, maybe we'll even get some LL Bean ads here on the site. Now that just might save Christmas!
