On A Letter

$20 Still Buys You A Kickass Concert

Chicago's The Sea and Cake are in New York this week playing two shows; tonight at Bowery Ballroom and tomorrow night at Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn. I chose the latter.

It's part of my new concert budget bailout plan, where I still support my favorite artists but at less expensive venues and where dinner for two before won't set you back a $100.

The Sea and Cake are one of those bands that I cannot believe I have never seen live. I have every one of their eight releases and consider them one of the most consistently interesting bands out there. They have been around since the early 90's and have influenced many of today's most progressive sounds, from Modest Mouse to Stereolab to Broken Social Scene. There is hardly a mix we program or a party we play that doesn't have a "C in Cake" song on it.

Psyched to see them!

This is one of our favorite tracks off of their new album, Car Alarm. It's the jazzy, breezy equivalent of a winding road an a sunny fall today with leaves blowing everywhere.

(If they are "new to you" or you want to learn more, you can read our full report Here!)
