My MMJ Day!
Today's my birthday!
I got a message this morning from MusicFile friend Tandy Fleming suggesting that I only listen to My Morning Jacket today. I liked the concept. Particularly because late last night as I was checking Twitter, I came across a post from one of our favorite music blogs: You Ain't No Picasso. In it, an over the top impressive collection of more than 50 covers by MMJ. All in one place. Alphabetically. All in mp3 format for streaming and a handy way to download the whole mass of them. Wow. For an MMJ fan, this is like dying and going to heaven.
I had bits and pieces of these-a few we had posted ourselves-but I'd never seen them all in one place. It's my birthday present! It's my MMJ day!
It was near impossible to pick just one but I landed on this track because a) I adore Charles Wright b) I love it when Jim James gets all down and funky and soulful and c) It's the best cover of this song I've ever heard. I believe it's from the 2008 New Year's Eve show at Madison Square Garden.
Here's the video version:
Because of all the MMJ love floating around in the universe today, I think it's a good time to go ahead and book my plane ticket to New Orleans for JazzFest where My Morning Jacket will headline the 1st weekend. Can't wait to hear some of these covers live. Until then, here's the link to all of them: MMJ 50 Covers
