The Book Is Closed

Exactly How Much Magic Is Out There?

You'd forgive me if I confuse The Magic Numbers and Magic Bullets, at least in name. Bands seem to jump on adjectives and nouns today with telepathic similarity when it comes to choosing names. So, so many "black" and  "white" bands, "wolf" bands, "panda" bands, "rabbit" bands. And MAGIC bands.

I like Magic Bullets better than the other magic band. They hit my sweet spot dead on-reminding me of The Cure, Morrissey and Jesus and Mary Chain. But truth be told, I missed this little EP they put out in January, 2009 called Lives For Romance. It's mellower and moodier than their 2007 debut album and this track just might make our "Best Songs of 2009" list. It's Low-Fi brilliance- there are even elements of early R.E.M. in both the feel of this track and in the album artwork.

Magic Bullets hail from the San Fran area and are one of a growing number of super talented young bands from that city (see Girls, Vetiver, The Dodos). Magic Bullets are in the studio recording their sophomore album as we speak and you can follow the progress on their Twitter Feed. Definitely a band to watch!

No shows right now, but I assume they will add some, once the new record is out, so check back!
