Music To Rain By...
Day 2 of Austin City Limits musical festival lays out before us with a 90% chance of rain. All day. This not only causes one to pause and rethink wardrobe, shoes, ponchos, etc. but we are taking a hard look at which bands (in a schedule of great bands) warrants standing in the pouring rain for, or in an attempt to put a positive spin on the whole day, which bands might actually be enhanced by a good downpour?
Two schools of thought:
1) raucous, chaotic, and mud-stomping (gotta go with Ghostland Observatory for this one)
2) mellow, sad, sway in the rain and ponder life (Bon Iver wins here)
But what if there was some combination of the two? As luck would have it, Grizzly Bear is playing at 3:00 today and I am feeling like some mud-stomping introspection from one of the hottest bands in the country might get us through the day (ok, a few beers are probably gonna help too!)
This track has become my favorite on Veckatimest. There is something raw, determined and empowering in both the words and the music... and it just might be one of the best 'I've had it with you' songs ever written.
While you wait for the others
To make it all worthwhile
All your useless pretentions
Are weighing on my time
You could beg for forgiveness
As long as you like
Or just wait out the evening
You'll always ask me why
Yes you'll only bleed me dry
So I'll ask you kindly to make your way
Mr. Rain Man- bring it on!
