Rod/Gab. Duo/Fab!
Every one out there who thinks classical Spanish guitar is bor-ing, raise your hand.
Now, prepare to be immediately persuaded otherwise.
The sophomore studio album from Rodgrigo Y Gabriela (aka Rod/Gab to their fans), was released last week and is already sitting in the #5 position in Amazon's top ROCK Mp3 downloads and is currently #14 and rising on Lala.com.
That's a far cry from busking in the streets of Dublin just 5 years ago.
The duo are known for their blazing live performances where they wrench more music out of two classical guitars than seems humanly possible. Their rise to fame came in part as a result of their ability to play heavy metal tracks with new acoustic aplomb (their debut album contained covers of Led Zeppelin and Metallica songs).
The new record features 11 original tracks brimming over with energy and vitality. It is music that feels pre-ordained to greatness from the first note of the first track- an homage to Hanuman, the Hindu God known for his strength, perseverance and devotion.
Sounds just like the duo themselves.
