Mojitos Anyone?

We're a bit obsessive about paying attention to songs used in TV Commercials. The results can be inspiring or insipid, depending on the choice.

Bacardi Rum broke through the clutter in 2008 with the "Mojito Song"  by  DJ Roberto Abigail. This year they go in a different direction, tracing the history of the mojito back through time using a series of vignettes set to Matt & Kim's "Daylight". Verbally, it feels like an odd choice given the very late night vibe of the ad campaign but then again, these revelers might still be around come daybreak. Irregardless,  it works to create an update, irresistible summer soundtrack that fits remarkably well with the movement through time.

Matt & Kim are a brooklyn duo who make exuberantly happy, dancy pop with lots of drums and synths. They feel like a modern day grunge version of Duran Duran. No matter, every time this ad comes on, it puts a smile on my face and  I swear I'm gonna whip up a batch of mojitos.

Exactly as Bacardi would want it!

Here's the Original Cuban Mojito recipe favored by Hemingway:

1 teaspoon powdered sugar
Juice from 1 lime (2 ounces)
4 mint leaves
1 sprig of mint
Bacardi white Rum (2 ounces)
2 ounces club soda

Muddle the first 3 ingredients together in a glass. Add crushed ice, rum, club soda and stir. Garnish with mint sprig.
