The Obsession Continues...
Yes, I am obsessed with the new Grizzly Bear album. It's that good. Album of the year and all that. It's a deep listen, one that washes over with you with such power that you find yourself at a loss for words. You listen again. You find new things to love, little nuances you missed the first 30 times. Yes, I know I am gushing. Particularly over this song. A song crafted with such patience and nuance that I initially couldn't tell where it began or ended. Yes folks, it's a REAL WHOLE ALBUM!
I always listen to new releases for the first time with no liner notes or track listing in hand. Just listen. And what turned out to be "All We Ask" at first seemed like 3 short songs gloriously strung together- a beautifully haunting one minute instrumental, a swelling 3 1/2 minute Radiohead like killer track that contains one of the best musical moments of the year (a repetitive "awhoomp" that recalls the sound a large lumbering elephant might make). All of which bleeds seamlessly into a one minute soulful doo wop recanting of the line "I can't get out of what I'm into with you".
Me neither.
Put on your head phones people. This is the real deal!
