My Brightest Diamond : Feeling Good

Shara Worden's Star Shines Brightly.
Shara Worden, aka My Brightest Diamond, steals every show she's in; supporting or otherwise. Last night's Dark Was the Night concert was no exception.
The Radio City Music Hall benefit celebrated the album of the same name with standout performances by many of the artists featured on the 20th anniversary of the Red, Hot musical compilations. David Byrne, Feist, Sharon Jones, The National, Bon Iver, David Sitek from TV On The Rado. It was a who's who of the new musical guard.
But no star was more on the rise than Shara Worden's. Not only did she perform this Nina Simone cover which appears on the album, she helped out -and that's putting it mildly-on the other two standout performances of the night:
With The National on a killer new track called "Vanderlye (sp?)Cry Baby"
With Bon Iver on "Flume" (hands down the performance of the night!)
In fact, John Carlin, the founder and director of the Red Hot Organization came back out on stage to identify her because so many people had asked him after her performance of "Feeling Good".
I had recently seen Shara in her role as "The Queen" in The Decemberists Hazards of Love tour. She steals that show too! She has a commanding stage presence and a voice that is equal parts cabaret and sultry rock star.
Having first gotten attention as a back up singer for Sufjan Stevens, it seems fitting that her star continues to rise in ever expanding supporting roles. It's sure gotten my attention and I plan to check out more of her work as My Brightest Diamond. My guess is, we all should!
