Feist and Ben Gibbard : Train Song
Monday, April 13, 2009
If I was feeling lazy, I could just post a song a day for the next month from the Dark Was The Night compilation and be done with it. We've already christened it our Album Of The Month and it's definitely one of those albums that keeps growing and growing on you as the thirty one songs sink in.
I promise not to be that lazy but this track warrants it's own pedestal. Even though Ben Gibbard of Death Cab For Cutie has announced his engagement to Zooey Deschanel of She & Him, I am sure hoping Z isn't the jealous type and will let him do a few more collaborations with Feist, because gosh they sound nice together. It's one of the great covers on the album; of Vashti Bunyan's beautiful "Train Song" from 1966. (Here's a link to the original if you are so inclined: iTunes)
This, along with Jose Gonzalez's cover of Nick Drake's "Cello Song", are daily reminders that the lost folk songs of the sixties have really stood the test of time.
